Waterfall + Spiral = Best of both worlds

Our development methodology is inspired from Microsoft Solutions Framework’s process model. This approach incorporates the best of both worlds of Waterfall and Spiral models, by defining short iterations, each consisting of five distinct phases and their clear deliverables.

The process leverages milestone based planning of waterfall model, as well as feedback and innovation from the spiral model.

Each iteration is like a mini-project in itself which produces a stable end product with more functionalities than before and the process continues with subsequent iterations.

First iteration consists of core functionalities and sets of features are added in later iterations.

The process is flexible enough and can be adjusted to wide specter of projects, size of teams and team members’ capabilities.

Our development methodology consists of following 5 phases per iteration, considered as a mini project:

Envisioning: Project’s high level goals, constraints, solutions are identified. Team focuses on identification of business objectives, initial requirements and team skills.

Planning: Solution architecture, design, project plans, schedules are prepared.

Developing: Functional components are developed as per the specifications.

Stabilizing: Quality of the solution prepared is improved to meet the client’s acceptance criteria, by fixing issues reported during integration and regression testing.

Deploying: Stabilized code is pushed to production. Team ensures a smooth transfer and gain customer’s approval of project completion.

This is how MS depicts it:
